Give blended families a platform to find support and resources to navigate familial changes
Stiefacademie Nederland joined forces with smaller business to increase awareness and provide help to blended and divorced families. With the divorce rate skyrocketing in recent years, the number of blended families is ever rising. These familial changes can be a challenge to navigate. Therefore a platform was created to prodivde advice and resources.
Getting to know the blended family market through a confrontation matrix.
The confrontation was based on the reference of three big competitors to the current clients.
The biggest opportunity was proven to scructure the information based on the phases a family goes through from divoce up until forming a blended family.
The biggest threat and weakness was that the current array of blended family content could render the client irrelevant if not given a strong Unique Selling Point.
Based on competitor research, client feedback and a confrontation matrix, guiding principles were formed.

Based on 9 interviews, personas were created, represeting younger and older users.

Is not ready to find resources on his own yet
Expects his parents to be supportive
Wants his stepmother to be good to his father
Feels awkward and does not know what to expect
Is unable to communicate with his stepmother
Parent Eline:
Searches the web for advice from other blended families
Wants to build a bond with her stepdaughter
Wants informal help, but can only find professionals
Is unable to establish parental boundaries with her stepdaughter
The main conclusion is that current users are having trouble finding informal resources. There is less need for professional help, since they want quick solutions to smaller conflicts.
Content creation for and by parents in blended families. Create a connection between parents by having them take the lead on what content is necessary to be a successful parent. Moderation would still be a necessity.
Guiding principles ‘We’re all in this’ and ‘What do you think?’ take the lead to create an informal way of community building by providing resources and support.
Steering away from interaction with other users, this concept focusses on searching and finding (re)sources as quickly and efficiently as possible. Taking inspiration from search engines, we wanted to place this in the context of blended families.
Following all research results, the team created the hi-fi prototype.
The eventual Unique Selling Point is providing all content based on and categorized by the phases of creating a blended family. This fulfills the users needs.
